May, 1999: Barcelona, Madrid
|
The ever popular series "Hotel Room Views" by Clinton Day. This is it from our room in Barcelona. A nice view of the plaza outside and the big church to the right. Barcelona's big attractions are the tiny, wall to wall streets all through town filled with food, art, and pictures of the Sagrada Familia, as well as other funky architecture by Antoni Gaudì (I prefer to refer to him as "Gaudy.) His "Modernism" work of the late 19th century is everywhere and I can't see why. It's kind of multi-colored, Disneyland, fake-mud style architecture and it doesn't fit in with the beautiful old cathedrals and walkways. But hey, the guy was a genius they say, so who am I to judge? |

The first piece of "genius" you gotta see when in Barcelona is the Parc Güell, which Gaudì designed to house the city's elite. |
It was to be a lavish living area with multi-colored houses and sparkling ceramic mosaics (the kind of stuff you make in grade school.) |
When only two people signed on to live there, they turned it into a Parc. 'Good thing the tourists find it interesting! |
