The Wayfaring Adventures of Rod and Clinton...

Germany:

April/May, 1999: Cologne

This is the first stop for Rod and I, and my first time ever to step foot on German soil. We took a train from Paris to Brussels, then changed to another into Cologne. The whole trip took about five or six hours if I remember correctly.

This is the town where I snapped this shot of Rod as the bells in the Dom (Cathedral) went off just as we were leaving the Glockenstübe which is the room where they are all hanging. The 24-ton Der große Peter is the world's heaviest swinging bell.

Cologne is a georgious little town in the western part of germany, just off the border of Belgium. This is the bridge leading to the train station which leads you right in front of the Dom.

The city sits on the Rhine River, and features many shops and cafés along this strip that faces the river.

The Große Saint Martin and the Dom (12th c. and 13th c., respectively) are two of the town's oldest and most beautiful buildings that weren't destroyed in WWII.

The massive Dom can be seen from just about everywhere in town. Gosh, it's even taller than ROD!

Ascend the 5 million stairs to the top and get a view of the river and the train tracks, as well as the rest of town.

Inside the cathedral.

Rod trying to make sense of the German graffitti. Actually, a lot of it was in English, French, Spanish, etc...

The signage at the top.

Once back safely on street level, we cruise down this main shopping drag and find some great deals on Italian leather shoes!
